SNE: FAR brings in arbitral big guns against Woodside
Gearing up for its arbitration against Woodside, first filed in late June before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris, Australian junior FAR has enlisted the services of Dallas-based law firm Thompson & Knight. FAR is contesting the proceedings of the sale of ConocoPhillips's 35% stake in Senegalese offshore permits Rufisque Offshore, Sangomar Offshore and Sangomar Deep Offshore to Woodside (AEI 791). The giant SNE deepwater oil discovery (500 million barrels) is located on these blocks. Thompson & Knight are veterans in dealing with cases on the continent, especially in oil. The firm has handled accounts for Angolan state-owned firm Sonangol, and the Irish firm Petroceltic, active in Algerian where Thompson & Knight have local offices. The law firm is providing advice to Kosmos Energy on its activities in Ghana (Jubilee, West Cape Three Points and Deep Water Tano). It previously helped out American group Devon Energy steer its activities in Angola and Nigeria. The law firm's Oil & Gas division is led by oil expert Andrew Derman. Derman clocked in twenty years with Texan firm Sun Oil, since renamed Oryx Energy.
