Our prison system is over crowded, most are and of course the powers to be are always under pressure to cut costs.
Dare say people in prison get better treatment than access to better facilities than some do on the pension, which is sad.
The problem of people of aboriginal decent being over represented in the prison system is a difficalt one, in a lot of ways the law is too lenient on them so it's doesn't deter them from committing crimes again.
Some time ago I was at a supermarket that a relative own, while speaking to him a staff member pointed out a couple of aboriginal kids stealing chocolate bars, he just said let them go. He explained that if he detained them, cops would come take them away and they would get some petty charge but he would have windows of his shop smashed in the days ahead.
Unfortunately too many aboriginal kids a brought up in dysfunctional families where the parents just live on the system and the children don't get encouraged to go to school and work towards a brighter future. If only the education system could do more for them, maybe some thiin like extracurricular activities that there really enjoy
