I've only ever felt loneliness in a crowd.
I camped in the Tanami Desert by myself for a week and that was the most profoundly life changing experience.
The nights were freezing so I'd dig out a shallow grave, light a small fire and heat some rocks, bury them in the shallow grave and sleep on the sand on top of them. I would crawl inside my sleeping bag with a hoodie, zip it with just my eyes and nose exposed and lay on my back watching stars for hours.
I love forest wilderness but the desert has a surprising charm.
