My thoughts,
No gunman would walk into a Cafe , school and etc. to take hostages if he wasn't sure that no one was packing a gun. Thanks to our Laws.
If just one other citizen had a gun, and was prepared to use it when necessary , then it would have been a much better outcome.
Possible the event would not have occurred.
What do Cafes and schools have in common?
No Guns.
The honest public is at the mercy of Criminals and fanatics who have guns,licensed or not.
In North Qld, we don't go swimming in "stinger" season.
Well the smart ones don't.
So if I am a gunman, would I go and hold up an Army barracks, police station and etc where there is Known guns?
Or would I pick on Cafe, school, train, bus where citizens would at best carry only a pen?
A honest sane licensed citizen is not going to shoot some one, unless in self defence for all concern, for they would have to go through Expensive time and money Court proceedings to prove their action was justified.
Better to be Judge by Twelve than carried by six.
I would say people who apply and receive a gun license would be safer than some apply and receive a drivers licence.
I remember them putting on aircraft, armed flight Marshall when we had those Aircraft Hi jacking .
Off duty police officers and security guards should be able to carry concealed weapons.
Or anyone who passes a test to do so.
The public is a ransom, because there is no one to protect them.
If there was no guns, zero, in Australia, then fair enough.But there isn't, there is millions of them.
But if one Criminal can carry a gun, than all who would take a test and the responsibility of carrying one should be allowed.
At present, it's like fishing in a Fish bowl, and we are the fish.
