Does anyone have any stats on crime committed with legal registered guns as opposed to unregistered and illegal guns. This stat would truly give an indication of the success of gun laws.
The hard thing to measure is how much crime is discouraged as a result of criminals not knowing who has a gun. I have been hearing lately of many houses being broken into in Sydney while people are asleep. I would imagine that criminals would be more inclined to wait until no body is home to break in than possibly confront someone with a gun and risk being killed. The fear of death may even encourage them to get a job.
