People have said previously that they need to download between 6 & 9 apps to trigger the initial 500MB reward (with the downloading of Freeway itself giving one of those rewards).
I don't think it's too much, so long as the user has a reasonable range of apps to choose from, if there are only 10 things available they might be forced to download things there totally not interested in, just to trigger the reward.
Yup good point, on one they should show a rough estimate of trial time required to reach the reward activation, the other the rough amount of data going to be used to reach the time requirement. Obviously if the user wants the product anyway it doesn't matter as much, the reward is a bonus. If they weren't really interested in the first place, how much effort are they going to put in to gain the reward (ie is it worth it). Something they'll no-doubt learn over time, the cut-off point between user attraction & user apathy to a particular reward.
Syntonic could always try doing split rewards, ie you get 10MB for downloading the app & another 30 MB when you've used it for X length of time or used 20MB of data on it.
That way, the first bit is easy to earn, & once its on the phone I would think they'll then be more likely to do the second bit to get the rest of the reward, rather than thinking I have to do both to get any part of the reward !!!
I'm sure they'll be analysing all the data to see how users are responding & what the take-up rates are.
