They need to return the shares with any distribution / dividend.
LLL is a distribution and as such the shorter if not closed its position needs to return FFX and the in specie LLL shares that would have been attached.
They will be working on the demerger carrying no premium and the sum of FFX + LLL = Less than the short they opened.
