Thanks for that. One of the most edifying papers I have read in a long time. I am still digesting it, so may have comments later.
My only immediate comments are;
1. We don't have an alternative to temp., unfortunately.
2. It reinforces my idea that I have previously espoused; that the IPCC should be restructured into fundamental disciplines, including support ones, one of which should be statistics (left off my original list), and all work would have to get peer reviewed by these disciplines. Mind you an old statistics joke comes to mind: A statistician is a person who says that if you stick your head in the oven and your feet in the cryostat then you are OK on average!
