In Australia it may be small - but gold is traded everywhere relatively transparently - unlike most international corporations that are usually traded in at most 5-6 markets. The volume of gold traded certainly surpasses any stock internationally. Gold is hence much more liquid and usually has a better buy-sell spread. Movements in gold price usually represent massive traded volumes internationally.
