There is simply no other way. Whether it is through external war or civil war or both it will happen. A human extinction event is on the horizon where a significant part of the population is doomed.

Gold/silver need to be stored in the hope of surviving. But food will no doubt be the main issue.
The chances of reverting back to a middle ages type of economy look quite reasonable.
Look on the bright side as the likes of diabetes and overweight people mostly become a thing of the past.
On the not so bright side disease and pestilence can be expected.
Thank God I grew up when I did, without the poison being inflicted on everyday people by the ruling class.
