Gold as insurance? Hasn't been insurance for the last 5 years, it's been a millstone around goldbugs necks while they wait patiently for Schiffhead's forecasts to come true.
You what's been a real winner? Property where I live, it's out of control, not that I trade it, I just own a couple and I also own listed Aussie property.
Won't go on forever but it's been good for a couple of mill for me over the last few years. Brisbane is forecast to continue rising as well, it's a shame you don't own any.

Got some exposure to the Dow? Looks like it's broken out, technically the target is 20,000. 6% dy on CBA's not bad, + any capital gain. CBA has soundly thrashed gold over the last 7 years (excluding divs).
