No records are required. I declare dividends to IRD, but don't keep contract notes.
The tax department here hasn't been too concerned about profits or losses since the enormous crash in 1987. They decided in their wisdom to tax profits, it probably seemed like easy money at the time, but after the crash they were required to cough up the losses. They certainly choked on that.
