Found out that the vaccine contains Heparin and the relative is allergic to Heparin so the booking was cancelled. Could have killed her. They already know the vaccine could cause blood clots otherwise why add an anticoagulant. NOT the point I am trying to make. The relative is allergic to Penicillin and found out about Heparin after a major operation that resulted in thrombosis in the lungs and a near death experience. Twice. It was only a change to Warfarin that saved her life. Platelet count while on Heparin collapsed to 16. Sound familiar??? Apparently people who are allergic to Heparin are also allergic to Penicillin but not necessarily vice versa. You are only likely to find you have an allergy to Heparin after a major operation. One way you might be able to save a life is if you know anyone that has an allergy to Penicillin (they will have a medic alert necklace or bracelet), ask if they have been tested for an allergy to Heparin. If not, suggest they get one before getting the shot. In the meantime, the experts can fiddle while Rome burns. They believe those that died ALREADY had a low platelet count. .
