    GREAT FAIRFAX STRIKE: DAY THREE

In the same week Fairfax began striking over 125 planned redundancies, the ABC is hiring another 80 people – just to cover the weather:

Tension builds across the land as the great Fairfax strike of 2017 continues. Crikey founder Stephen Mayne yesterday found himself caught up in righteous Fairfax fury.

Mayne’s crime? He crossed the strikers’ picket line to submit a freelance opinion piece:

Have filed a comment piece for The Age tomorrow on the @cityofmelbourne budget - lots of interesting detail in the numbers. Don't miss it.

The backlash was immediate and hilarious:

And the ABC is also supportive, which is interesting, considering that their $1 billion in annual funding is crowding Fairfax right out of the left-wing media market:

In the same week Fairfax began striking over 125 planned redundancies, the ABC is hiring another 80 people – just to cover the weather:
The ABC recently announced 80 new jobs would be available in regional Australia, including two weather specialist positions for people with a science background: Senior Reporter, Weather and Senior Producer, Weather. The successful applicants will provide specialist weather stories in regional and rural communities across Australia, and make the science behind the weather as accessible as possible to audiences.
There’s your future, former Fairfaxers. Looking at rain gauges in Coonabarabran. The pressure is building as well on the few staffers in Melbourne and Sydney who are still gamely producing newspapers each day

Another 80 ABC workers to come to the ABC sheltered workshop for leftie Journos!
