Very particular friend (recuperating from operation) has been asking me to buy some for her but reckon the absolute best are from Tasmania. Won't be for at least another week before they are in Melbourne shops, I've been told. However, the Victorian ones (top of the range) are excellent. I am tempted to preserve some in brandy, despite their price. They are now very fat and very dark in colour, so the flavour is excellent.
I buy limes (another poster wrote about these) and if I get too many lemons from my gardener who gets them on his work rounds, then I also remove the zest and squeeze these, freezing them in iceblock containers. I have lots of iceypole shaped containters with the sticks in them and use these as well. When cooking fish or making a dressing requiring some citrus these are quickly available. Put a bit of boiling water over the "iceypole" and it comes out easily for cooking purposes. Can be used throughout the year. I make lemon curd (lemon butter) during the winter as well with the juice. Good for gifts.
