The WHO and the US chief seem to think that, at best, a vaccine is a long way off.

There are two issues with a vaccine. 1. potency response and antibody numbers. 2. duration of immunisation.

How can anyone tell the length of time a vaccine works except by exhaustive phase 3 testing over a longish period time. So a vaccine is produced for manufacture this year the obvious question is how long does it work? Since phase 3 commenced a few months ago at best the immunity might be 6 months at best. Might.

A vaccine like that can only be given to health workers and those at high risk of infection and you can rule out any mass vaccination because of the unknown immunity duration.

All a bit airy fairy. The press are loving this hope on a string news. It's just plain wrong to think immunisation within 12 months is possible.

However the next logical thought turns to a cure.

There are cures being developed that stop or inhibit the virus spreading in the body. There are testing kits under development that can give a 10-30 minute result.

Imagine you develop a cough so you go to a pharmacy and buy a testing kit. On a positive result you go to your GP for a confirmation test and leave with a pharmacy script for a COVID19 inhibitor. Youre told to go home and rest for four days.

This is the most likely future COVID 19 treatment before any worthwhile vaccine becomes available and if an effective vaccine cannot be found it will be the only home based treatment .

The rest is just the press trawling for a reason to exist.
