I remember the 1960's and 70's and seem to remember social unrest in the US on a grand scale over 5 odd years. And then starwars with the USSR which ultimately brought down communism in Eastern Europe.
I wouldn't be writing off the US just at the moment. They have enormous economic clout and can create instability within China through tarriffs on top of the global slowdown. Unemployment in China is at unheard of highs now.
Morally the US has the ability of draining Hong Kong of money and expertise.
Rome lasted 500 years and England 250 years. The US is far from finished. We just got to watch n see what happens after the election. Trump will go after China right up to November 1.
