Firstly, I don't see a problem with a word changing meaning slightly. It's happened throughout time continuously, and I think the word "guy" has evolved pretty much into a gender non-specific reference. And I've heard women use it in reference to a group of mixed gender.
Amuses me, however. to see the old righties lunge for their old favourite crutch-cry of "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!!!" LOL, because someone suggests that a word, "guy", should retain its historical meaning.
Amusing that they lunged for the same (crutch-cry/explanation/whine) POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!!! LOL when someone suggested that the word "marriage" should be altered to include two people of the same gender.
So, it's political correctness if it changes, and political correctness if it stays the same. LOL
