Personal experience in the last month selling our place is the agent worked with us to get the price we wanted. Buyer came back initially at the lower range of what we wanted. Discussed what we'd accept with the agent and countered with an amount slightly above that. Buyer then came back and accepted our offer.
There was no pushing from the agent for us to accept any offer from the buyer and was happy for us to take the place to market if we weren't happy with the off market offers.
