    I believe median Oz house sizes have come off from peaks over 240m2 but still around 225-230m2, making them the largest detached houses in the world.
    Not main point I was making though.

    They have (nearly) doubled in size from 1970, from around 125m2 to 245m2 at peak.
    Even in 1985 they were around 160m2...
    a very significant fact no-one seems to take into account when doing these stupid comparisons/charts.

    What effect do you think building nearly double the size of property would have on prices over 50 years?

    and some 70s housing was good brick and tile, but alot was also rubbish fibro, or board and batten.
    fit outs are far more luxurious now compared to back then in main.

    Think, butlers pantrys, double vanities, stone benchtops, media rooms, ducted air, floor to ceiling tiled... as STD now, but only for super wealthy back then.
