    There's a bit more to it. In Islam there is not separation of church and state. The muslim clergy is above government (Ayatollahs and Sheiks and Mullahs) and they do deals with government MPs and in return they instruct their people at the mosques on how to vote. However, most Christian clergy will allow each person to vote with their conscience.
