bacci europeans had over 3,000 years of exposure to alcohol to become accustomed to the liver functioning of metabolising alcohol.

Aboriginal people had a sudden exposure to alcohol only 250 years ago. they never had grog prior to that. the identification of a liver enzyme that enables processing alcohol to a +ve mood state as missing in traditional Aboriginal people explains some of the problem but not all.

some parts of Aboriginal culture now have become accustomed to drinking to the point of inebriation, similar to the state of drinking in the 18/19thCs.

it's a very difficult problem to manage any addiction, particularly alcohol.

know though that most Aboriginal people don't drink as the most visible Aboriginal people do.
