"Sustainable growth"? All in the eyes of the beholder, really. Very subjective term and it is very hard to determine. Melbourne residents are sitting for very very long stretches of times not moving while in their vehicles attempting to reach their homes. Is that "sustainable" or do we just build more roads? Can't shop locally on the weekends as the footpaths are like packed with bikes, billboards, tables, wheelchairs, scooters, prams and queues in every shop. Is that sustainable and an improvement of life? NO.
Try moving around the CBD of Melbourne? Is that sustainable and improving our living standards? NO. Melbourne has moved down the rank of most livable city and it won't be going up any time soon.
