This is a really rapid rate of increase in Parauapebas. Quite scary. More than doubling in 5 days, from Sunday to Friday 22nd May, from 480 cases to 1070 cases. Vale's field hospital the Parauapebas Campaign Hospital opened on Tuesday 19th May, with an initial 32 beds exclusively for COVID 19 patients, to be expanded to 100 beds soon.
1070 cases in total in Parauapebas as of yesterday. 443 positive cases sent home to self isolate- 58 deaths. In a city of only 196,000.
And strangely- the lockdown is only for 6 days, then the mayor wants to start opening things up again. Incomprehensible.

There were 572 cases confirmed as of 7pm Monday 18th , and 50 deaths in the city. A city which is only 50 ks from the Carajas mines and which provides workers and supplies to the mines.
