    I'm not an expert and this is based on personal experience.

    The answer (I would say) is YES.

    Alcoholism can take on many forms.

    My father drank several king browns every night for most of the time I can remember.

    Use to play darts at the local tavern weekly and drive home drunk.

    Couldn't go without a drink at night (unfortunately the vietnam war had that sort of affect on people), however was never violent, never drunk before work, never showed signs of intoxication the morning after. And was a good father.

    However with a bit of maturity behind me I now know that he was an alcoholic. Probably got drunk to escape the memories of past.

    Couldn't give up the drink (or smoking) which eventually contributed to his death at 56.

    Other People may say no. Just my opinion.
