Just heard this from a mate at QAN ......For the first time since 1988 QANTAS will sack its apprentice engineers when they finish their apprenticeship later this month. Around 20 apprentices have not been offered a permanent job with QAN when they finish their apprenticeship.
Why is QAN doing this??
It roughly costs an organisation $500,000 to train the skills of the individual in the trade industry especially in engineering. The cost increases when the worker leaves the company or industry. QANTAS logic in releasing apprentices once their trade is gained not only displays short term gain tactics to suit the large stakeholders but also the lack of discipline to ensure that the future and integrity of the company is intact.
