I had a conversation the other day with a friend (I’ve had a few with different friends). It always astounds me though by now it shouldn’t that intelligent and well educated people have done so little thinking about the Middle East.
they believe Israel uses propaganda and haven’t considered that Hamas might
they have no idea about the history of the area - whether it is a Palestinian version or an Israeli version or straight facts that can be gleaned by anyone who cares
they have no ability to consider history in context - ie not with contemporary overlays but by understanding circumstances and context at the time.
they have utterly brought in to the goodies and baddies narratives
they have not thought about the possibility that the fighting will not end even if there is a Palestinian state because they don’t understand the mind of Hamas who is not fighting for a state but for destruction of a state
they have not thought about the declared sins of fundamentalism - to establish a Muslim caliphate
