... the government of Iran, a country I have never been to or want to go to, sends me a letter advising me that they have given me citizenship of their country, does that now make me ineligible to run for parliament here?
Just suppose Malcolm and Donald had a blazing row. Donald could then send a similar letter to Malcolm granting him US citizenship. Malcolm would then have to resign from parliament.
Clearly the situation is absurd. The law/constitution needs to be changed.
