Labor’s internal sexism revealed
Women face systemic, cultural and rules-based impediments to participation in the Labor Party, according to a landmark report that urges strengthening affirmative action requirements for selecting candidates, officials and union delegations, and imposing sanctions for failure to comply.
A survey of Labor women included in the report found barriers to women joining the party included “sexism”, a “boys’ club mentality”, “seeing women put down in the media and by the party”, and a lack of “encouragement” to participate.
