Exactly Andy ... particularly when there is high throughput of ore combined with crushing ... hard to control particularly in a country like Thailand, where the rains when they come, are very intense. This likelihood does not bode well.
However, as I said in a previous post, arsenic is not only found in runoff from mining, but also naturally in the soil and in many fertilizers used in Asia. A recent report into the occurrence of arsenic and various other toxic substances in rice said: 'Rice is particularly effective at picking up arsenic from fertilizers and soil, in part because it is one of the only major crops grown in water-flooded conditions, which allow arsenic and other solubles to be more easily taken up by its roots and stored in the grains."
Personally, I'm hoping very much that the company has been as scrupulous as they say.
