Australians scoff at the forms of corruption used in third world countries but not their own. We just have home grown forms of it that have no moral difference but exploit legal loopholes.
In India if you want a passport you need to pay an official to move to the top of a 20year queue. In Indonesia a facilitation payment is necessary for import documentation. In Greece a "little envelope" for treatment at the hospital.
In Australia if you want to speak to a politician you will need to pay one of his mates a "consulting fee" for an introduction. If you want favourable consideration of your proposal buy tickets for $20,000 a plate dinners. If you want any consideration you need to buy tickets as "" observers" to the annual conference, no need to attend.
We all know that paying "fees" or buying " tickets" from officials who have discretion to handle your requests is corruption.
Why do companies entertain current politicians in Corporate Boxes. Either it is a use of shareholders money in share holders interests or not.
Australian politicians are as crooked as anywhere else.
