Single young men suicide rates are up due to loneliness and a lack of success in the dating game and also loss of opportunities in the job market compared to the 1950s. Social media means the average girl can access the top few % of men and sleep with them and no longer be satisfied with those in the next 20% let alone the next 80%. Lots of good men get turned down as they are only 90% perfect rather than 100% perfect. If you like things are closer to the jungle where the head male lion or head gorilla gets to mate with the females and the rest don't get to breed. ( not going into those that cheat here or try to ) . Young woman are freer than the 1950s yes and probably happier for a time while they are at their young peak.
BUT woman don't stay at their reproductive attractive peak forever. Loneliness for woman occurs over different time periods than men being the 40 plus long years after 40 years of age when they get less and less attention to the point of invisibility. Many of these women end up alone and increasingly, homeless. Those $5000.00 handbags were not such a great investment after all and nor where those trips on wealthy men's yachts trips who only wanted to pump and dump them while they were young and pretty.
Germaine Greer like many childless unmarried woman now lives alone in assisted care with no family to look after her. More loneliness and lack of caring for our elders as well is what feminism has brought us.
Now strictly speaking Germain is now about liberalism rather than equality but this greater freedom is resulting in a lack of ties which in the long run means a lack of caring and increased loneliness for society as a whole.
