    Wrong again stevo. You need to divorce yourself from the idea that someone who disagrees with you is "a complete and total fool" (your words) Read my earlier post again and you might actually learn some science to replace your political posturing.

    Plants grow until some factor limits that growth. In the canopy of a forest, that limit might be height. Plants have grown so high they can so longer suck enough water out of the ground to get any higher.

    On the forest floor of the same rainforest, the limiting factor may be available light. Plants get so little light, their growth almost stops. Only when one of the large trees falls does enough light penetrate to the forest floor for the tiny seedlings to grow.

    In the open ocean, the limiting factor is likely to be mineral nutrients, particularly iron. The chemistry of seawater is such that dissolved iron is very efficiently removed as insoluble iron oxide. Even though iron is one of the most abundant elements in the Earth's crust, its concentration in seawater is vanishingly low.
