Queensland Liberal National Party makes comeback in latest opinion poll

Queensland's ruling Liberal National Party (LNP) has pulled ahead of Labor in the latest opinion poll.
The Newspoll survey published in The Australian shows the LNP has gained five percentage points since June, and now leads Labor 54 per cent to 46 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis.
Primary support also increased from a low of 32 per cent in June to 39 per cent.
The comeback was at the expense of the Palmer United Party (PUP) and independents, whose primary support dipped by six percentage points to 18 per cent of the primary vote.
The Government had been licking its wounds and trying to focus on its positive policies since it was thumped in two by-elections this year, which saw them lose two south-east Queensland seats with swings of more than 17 per cent.
Premier Campbell Newman offered a mea culpa after the defeats and reversed a some controversial policies, but it has not been enough to lift his approval rating.
Some 54 per cent of those surveyed were dissatisfied with his performance, which was a slight improvement since June.
Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk had a dissatisfaction rating of 36 per cent.
Despite the dissatisfaction ratings, the poll showed the public would still prefer Mr Newman as premier over Ms Palaszczuk - some 41 per cent to 35 per cent.
