Living in a rural area people from the city visit and ask how we live here?
It's so quiet, it's many kms to a coffee shop, what do you do when you run out of milk etc
The locals around here are always ringing to check if everything is OK when they haven't seen you about.
The parents doing the bus run have a chat at drop off and pickup times.
We call in and have a cup of coffee with elderly neighbours.
Drivers wave to each other on the road.
We stop and chat to the lollipop man if we are first in line at the stop sign (they are using foaming bitumen at the moment)
Clearing sales and cattle sales are well attended. A fund raiser was held a few months ago for the "Do it for Dolly" foundation at the local saleyards. A record crowd attended.
Keeping a connection with your local community requires effort but is really worthwhile.
Re Vets. Our local vet injected himself with Euthanol and died. Pretty traumatic for wife and three young children.
