This news broke as I was flying back from Barcelona.

The full extent of the tragedy is still unclear, but the market reacted predictably.
The question remains as to whether this will escalate the Ukraine situation to a degree that it will have an effect on the world economy and the price of gold.
Mean while the gold bugs can reasonably be expected to dine out on this stuff.
One thing does puzzle me about this report.
It is said that there were 295 passengers on the plane. A friend of mine who likes a cheap airfare and a bit of risk, flew from Australia to Europe three weeks ago with Malaysian Airline. The plane he flew on was all but empty of passengers. Has confidence in the airline recovered that quickly?
