It's possible but it's a lot of trouble to go to. What happens if the flap is dumped near the island and the barnacles decide that the water temperature is not the same as back in the lab, or the salinity or something else is wrong, causing them all to fall off.
Those barnacles looked very happy after getting a prime piece of real estate.
