Maybe some of the FIFOs late to the party might have squandered their "champagne" salaries, but I can assure you that the long term FIFO workers that I know are aware how fickle the industry is. My husband is a 30 year FIFO worker and when he was on contract the money was good but he has gone many months without any work. To ease the highs and lows of the pay cycle, we went to our bank and arranged a line of credit. It has kept us in good stead over the years.
I do not know of any of my husband's former and present work colleagues that have been "kept" by tax payers.
