    According to our Minister for Defence, Australia intends to spend
    $300 billion on our armed forces so that we can ride shotgun to
    Uncle Sam.

    This is an incredible amount of money to spend on defence without specifying
    who we are defending Australia against.

    One would imagine that we should be trimming our defence budget post the Middle East war;
    not increasing it.

    Without this proposed spend, we are already spending $43 billion this year on defence
    including our DVA spend and rather than increasing this at a time of historically high
    budget deficits, we should be trimming this spending back to pre 2003 levels.

    It seems ridiculous to spend such vast sums defending ourselves against China
    (China makes up 41% of our trade) and Indonesia ( our closest neighbour and
    a  major beneficiary of our foreign aid)

    Perhaps  Hockey & Abbott should obtain taxpayers' permission in the form of a plebeside
    before taking us to these levels of debt rather than quibbling a plebeside about
    silly same sex marriage.

    Mm
