These issues are first and foremost the responsibility of States, they have the assets to fight the fires etc.
It's a good move from Morrison to no longer wait for requests of assistance from State leaders in the deployment of the ADF though. Hopefully everyone can sing from the same hymn book, and clear command structures etc are in place. You don't want all of these agencies tripping over each other and not co-ordinating properly.
Oh, and the amount of times I've heard about this requested meeting with fire chiefs being brought up. The meetings were referred to the correct Minister, and the request was from ex-fire chiefs. First and foremost, direction needs to be taken from those in active roles that are providing advice not dripping with political motive. We now know these ex-fire chiefs were herded together under the umbrella of Tim Flannery.
