if a worker comes to a business owner and would like to finish work at noon because they are going away for a weekend and don't want to travel after dark, most owners will be happy to oblige. If that same employee says "do not contact me after work hours because that is the law" owners will be less likely to work in with employees on that basis which will lead to employees taking sickies which is not great for either and is morally wrong as they are using a employee benefit under false pretences.

Agreed there should be give and take.

However sick leave doesn't exist anymore.

It's personal leave. No reason need be given to use it unless it gets out of hand.
