Fremantle Dockers star and Brownlow medal favourite Nat Fyfe will miss the remaining two weeks of the home and away season with a leg injury.
The midfielder, who was this weekcleared of a rough conduct charge by the match review panel to keep him eligible for the Brownlow, will now sit out the Dockers' matches against Melbourne and Port Adelaide in a bid to be fuly fit for the finals.
Fyfe has been diagnosed with inflammation in his fibula, a condition known as perisotitis.
Fremantle's general manager of football operations Chris Bond says the break should have Fyfe ready for a finals charge.
"Our medical advice is that Nat should be available for selection after a two-week break," Bond said.
Fyfe recently missed two weeks because of a groin injury, meaning he will enter the finals having played just two of the previous six matches.
His layoff may also open the door for someone else to nab the Brownlow medal.
Fyfe was the hottest of favourites to win the prestigious award after producing a series of blistering displays in the opening 14 rounds of the season.
But he has struggled to recapture that dominant form since copping a nasty cork from Hawthorn midfielder Sam Mitchell's knee in round 15.
His lower output, plus the two weeks out with a groin injury, means Fyfe is unlikely to poll more than three votes from round 15 onwards.
Even so, his blistering early form might be enough to keep him ahead of the likes of Todd Goldstein, Matt Priddis and Patrick Dangerfield.
The Dockers are currently sitting two points clear of West Coast on top of the AFL ladder.
