The last little storm in Qld showed just how good fixed line services are. On one of the talk back shows a caller was alerting listeners to the fact that he was on NBN, his power went out he had no telephone or internet service, he could not even make an emergency call on 000 if he needed to.
I lost power at my place for two days and lost the internet as well. Though my land line telephone worked no problem. Even running my portable generator for the fridges and lights, hooking power to the cable modem and computer still did not give internet service. Yet, I am told the power loss at my place was due to a transformer failure, no lines down. So why no internet or fox? But, wireless internet and mobile telephone coverage was available the whole time.
The NBN will be a failure on all fronts and will probably lead to people losing lives because they won't be able to make an emergency call when power is out due to bush fires or floods. Another Pink Batts episode but at Billions not millions of dollars.
