One way to avoid poverty in life is to own your own home, and one way to make it easier to own your own home is to keep them affordable, remove/prevent tax concessions that encourage speculation, overcapitalision in one asset class. Do not introduce laws and schemes to drive prices higher. Introduce initiatives and policies to improve supply.
Driving prices higher so that a small proportion of the population own more of the assets and introducing penalties for those who don't own will just exacerbate the situation. They will have less money to save after being further taxed, the increase in demand due to the fear of the penalties will artificially pull forward demand driving prices higher as supply is inelastic..etc.
I think its a stupid idea..
Here's how the liberals like to hand out your tax money simo..not for social security or pensions..to existing property owners. But you wouldn't disagree cause you own property..
