I guess it all depends on what these directors actually bring to the table in terms of assisting in the operations of the company. As I can't really get any real idea on what they actually do it is hard to assess their merits.
However it does seem reasonable to assume that each director is made on a needs basis and according to the financial capacity of a company and as such one could assume that Austpac needs to be careful not to pay directors above what they can afford as it is a large drain on the expense account.
