    Kingins, decentralisation has merit to a degree but even in the USA it has not worked all that well, New York is still a major center

    The internet has helped make decentralisation much more practical but it still has a long way to go.

    Perth is an interesting example, with population of 1.9m spread over a vast area we have many so called town centers but they all only serve a relatively small population. ie one cafe is viable but with no completion they charge high prices and provide poor service, second cafe opens and ther is not enough customers to make them viable.

    This is were cities are vibrant with many cafe, restaurants ect that are relatively cheap s there is plenty of customers and competition works. This also means there is employment.

    Great to have home on big lots but there is trade off's, suits some but not others.
