Let me say from the outset that I have never shorted any stock.
I thought about shorting my LTR holding at $3. I sold 45% and thought about shorting the remainder, as I was very concerned about what could unfold. if I had some experience in shorting, I may have gone ahead and done it. My head was all over the place at the time, to be honest.
If people could sell a piece of their house, while the price was good, to help fund their retirement, or whatever, I think most would see this as a positive. In effect, they would be taking out a short position on their home. I don't see this as any different to taking out a short position on your shareholding. It locks in some profits, for the cost of hedging, while maintaining a long position.
Unfortunately, it seems shorting can also be used as a weapon for price manipulation and wealth transfer. Retail pockets are not deep enough to survive the onslaught from institutions. Just as guns were banned because they cause mass destruction when misused, I agree they should ban short selling.
    Love your posts, @Scarpa.
