"had strong accents , yet they were born here"

This is a big problem - one that is not explored enough, yet the obvious sticks out like a sore thumb after posing the obvious questions.

The background of so many like this is parents who came here with many choosing not to integrate (why?) - many chose not to learn the English language (why?) and chose (were offered) benefits without needing to work (why?). They shunned outsiders (why?) and despised their hosts (why?) behind closed doors in their mother tongues while accepting the handouts and taught their children that our society were to be blamed for their own failures (why).

Rather than a positive influence on our society and on their families, the parents have proven to be a negative influence and have spawned a culture of second generation aggressive haters of so much about our own society.

What sits beneath all of this? What is the answer to the 'Why?' question?

Lack of respect? Where does this come from? It's an interesting study that clearly points the finger at the root cause.

It ultimately comes back to a question of 'who' is to blame.

The common bond with so many immigrants is the local cultural community organisations that sit in the background supporting and providing direction. In the case of these middle eastern groups, in many cases the local community organisations that underpinned their immigrant parents' direction (as is the case with other communities) were those run by their religious order...in so many of these cases, we are of course referring to the mosque.

We must of course also point the finger at those social orders within our society who encourage/d the acceptance of handouts as the norm and to ask and expect no less.

In hindsight, a perfect formula for the second generation of violence mess we witness so often.

And apart from the Lebanese/Islamic chip on the shoulder that fostered much of this, Whitlam and Fraser sponsored this process. Thanks for the mess.
