I fear you are right - at some point there will be an explosive backlash against Muslim communities harbouring extremists and it won't be pretty. It's the inevitable outcome of successive governments having done nothing for too long, they will have brought it upon themselves and the Government and the police are terrified that if such a backlash occurs they are powerless to contain it. That's part of the reason for their lack of action to date, the numbers are just too big for them to handle.
