On Insiders this morning the panel included Niki Savva. Discussion included Tony Abbott's pre-election promise of NO cuts to the ABC and SBS.

Savva made the comment that telling a lie is bad enough but telling more lies to try cover over the first lie is much worse.

Following the pitiful, comical attempts this week by Malcolm Turnbull to rescue Abbott the rotten egg has splattered all over Abbott's Government - the one person the public had trusted in the Coalition seemingly exposed trying to protect Abbott's neck:

Therein lies a major problem for Abbott's Government! People are increasingly making the judgement that if Julia Gillard lied her way into office, Abbott has done much worse and the sight of an attempted denial and cover up was enough to make people feel ill.

The reality is that those great big election promises were made Abbott. As Kevin Rudd pushed HIM about his plan for "Cuts! Cuts! Cuts!" the response from Abbott was an emphatic:
. NO cuts, cuts, cuts [Education, Health, ABC-SBS, ....]
. NO new taxes and NO increased taxes [in this first term]
. A calm and mature government with the adults back in charge

Anyone telling us that those promises were never made is in denial and at risk themselves of weaving the web of lies and deceit that has come to characterise Abbott's Government.
